2026: A Wirral man has been sentenced for rape.

Ross Fyles, 28, of The Woodlands, Tranmere, was found guilty of three counts of rape, two counts of s47 assault occasioning actual bodily harm, possession of an imitation firearm and stalking with fear of violence following a trial at Liverpool Crown Court.

On Monday, 27 April, he was jailed for a total of 16 years with an additional three years on extended licence.

Detective Constable Patrick Shaw said, “Fyles denied the allegations but was found guilty by a jury following trial.

His actions have had a considerable impact on his victim and it is right that he is now behind bars for a considerable amount of time as a result.

“I would like to take this opportunity to praise the victim for her bravery and resilience throughout the investigation and court process.

We would always encourage anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence to have the courage to come forward and speak to us.

“We have specially trained officers and will provide all the necessary support throughout the investigation, court process and beyond.” If you have been a victim of sexual assault or rape, you can access specialist support services, which are free of charge and available to anyone.

You do not need a referral or to have reported an incident to Merseyside Police before you access these specialist support services.

These services can support you in a variety of ways, including offering a confidential discussion if you are thinking of making a police report, but are unsure what that involves and would like to discuss it.

You can choose to make an anonymous report through the Sexual Assault Referral Centre called Safe Place, or the Independent Sexual Violence Advisor service, rather than coming directly to Merseyside Police.

With no police involvement, a specialist doctor at Safe Place can examine you to check that you are ok and look for DNA evidence, which they will store to support your case.

This gives you the option of making a formal police report at a later time, if you choose to.

Support is also available in Liverpool, Sefton, and Wirral, from Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (RASA) Merseyside who are available on 0151 558 1801 and, in St Helens and Knowsley, by the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC) Cheshire and Merseyside, who can be contacted on 01925 221 546 or 0330 363 0063.

2016: In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Ormskirk, Ross Fyles, an 18-year-old man, was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after being found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old girl and leaving her pregnant.

The details of this troubling incident emerged during a court hearing at Liverpool Crown Court, revealing a pattern of illegal conduct that only came to light through the diligent investigation of the victim’s mother.

According to court reports, the relationship between Fyles and the young girl was clandestine and illicit.

It was only after the girl’s mother became suspicious of her daughter’s unusual behavior that she took action.

She initially took her to a family planning clinic, where a pregnancy test was conducted.

The first test returned negative, providing some relief.

However, a subsequent visit to the same clinic just a few weeks later confirmed that the girl was indeed pregnant.

The pregnancy was attributed to Fyles, who was identified as the father after further medical examinations.

The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has expressed her intention to keep the baby, which is due to be born in the summer.

She plans to raise the child at her mother’s home in Ormskirk, seeking stability and support during this difficult time.

The court heard that the girl’s relationship with Fyles was not only illegal but also deeply troubling, given her age and the circumstances surrounding their interactions.

Fyles, residing on Lea Crescent in Ormskirk, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault.

His defense lawyer, Paul Lewis, argued that Fyles had genuinely loved the girl and that the initial suggestions of sexual activity had come from her.

The court was also informed that Fyles has a prior criminal record, which added weight to the severity of his sentencing.

Prosecutors revealed that the case was brought to police attention after the girl’s mother discovered incriminating text messages on her daughter’s phone.

These messages included expressions of affection from Fyles, such as one where he stated, “You are the love of my life,” and other messages indicating a romantic relationship.

When Fyles was arrested, authorities found a scan picture of his unborn child along with the messages exchanged with the girl, further evidencing the nature of their relationship.

Judge Brian Cummings delivered the sentence, emphasizing the gravity of the offense.

In addition to the prison term, Fyles was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and was subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years.

The judge highlighted the disturbing nature of the case, noting the betrayal of trust and the impact on the young girl’s life.

The case has left the community of Ormskirk deeply shaken, raising concerns about safeguarding and the protection of minors from such predatory behavior.
