WOMAN SENTENCED TO FOUR YEARS FOR VICIOUS DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A woman named Pauline Sumner, from Ormskirk, was sentenced to four years in prison for a vicious assault on her former partner.The incident occurred on December 9, 2023, when Sumner, who was under the influence of alcohol, arrived at the victim's flat and declared she was still in love with her.
An argument ensued regarding their past relationship, during which Sumner pushed her victim back into a bedroom and began violently attacking her.
"Sumner started hitting and kicking her, leaving her feeling utterly 'defenceless' as blows rained down," the court was told.
She then grabbed chair legs and beat her with them, before returning with an alarm clock, which she hurled at her ex, and threw other objects as well.
The victim passed out from injuries but managed to flee the flat, despite being barefoot and coatless in bad weather.
She later attended hospital with a fractured arm, extensive bruising, and a perforated eardrum.
Sumner claimed she was house sitting and did not initially admit responsibility, but eventually pleaded guilty to section 18 GBH with intent.
The court highlighted her previous convictions, including a battery offense against the same victim in 2016.
The victim’s statement described her injuries and her fear for her life, saying she knew her arm was broken and that Sumner threatened to kill her.
Sumner was kept in custody and has been engaging in courses related to alcohol, drugs, and education.
The judge, Recorder Ayesha Siddiqi, described the attack as "vicious" and emphasized that it had a significant impact physically and mentally on the victim, noting that Sumner was intoxicated during the assault.
