ROSS CARVER AND SHOCKING CHILD ABUSE IN MAIDSTONE AND ASHFORD

A man named Ross Carver, who previously resided in Ashford, has been convicted of heinous crimes involving online grooming and the distribution of child abuse images.

The case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court, revealing the extent of his depravity during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

According to court reports, Carver used social media platforms such as Kik to indulge his disturbing sexual interests.

During this time, he engaged in numerous explicit conversations over a span of six months, where he solicited indecent photographs, shared graphic images and videos of child abuse, and even encouraged others—some of whom were minors—to carry out sexual acts on their younger siblings and cousins.

His actions demonstrated a disturbing pattern of online predation and exploitation.

The 33-year-old, who now lives with his parents in Bearsted, Maidstone, admitted to multiple charges, including three counts of attempting or arranging child sexual offences, nine counts of distributing indecent images of children, and three counts of possessing such images.

The police investigation uncovered these crimes after seizing an iPhone and a Samsung device during a search of his former residence in November 2020.

Prosecutor Lucy Luttman detailed that the seized devices contained numerous chat logs and indecent images.

Carver was found to be a member of several online groups with names referencing foot fetishes, such as "Teen feet 10-16" and "Teen feet anything goes." He also conducted internet searches using terms like "Young feet," indicating a focus on underage subjects.

Between June and October 2020, Carver communicated with individuals claiming to be as young as 12, 13, 14, and 20 years old.

In one notable exchange, he contacted a girl in Los Angeles, describing himself as "laidback, bored and fancies some fun," and asked her for indecent images.

He assured her he would pay for such images, offering up to £15 per photograph, and inquired about her feet, even asking if they smelled of vinegar.

However, authorities clarified that the ages claimed by these individuals had not been verified, and it remains uncertain whether they were actual minors or adults posing as children.

Further investigation revealed that Carver shared a staggering 79 images and videos depicting child abuse, including children aged between four and ten, engaged in the most severe sexual acts, such as rape.

These images were circulated across 42 different chat groups between July and November 2020.

In these communications, Carver used grotesque language to describe his own alleged acts of abuse, including claims of raping toddlers, which he described as "great, like a dream." He also detailed in vile terms the sexual acts he claimed to have committed, encouraging others to do the same.

Additional images found on his devices included depictions of a two-year-old girl and animated representations of babies.

Despite his claims of reporting other users for sharing inappropriate images, police found no evidence linking him directly to the abuse in the videos or images, nor did they find any evidence that the relatives he mentioned as being molested actually existed.

During police interviews, Carver admitted to using Kik primarily for foot fetish groups.

Although he used the word "teen" in some of his online searches, he insisted he never sought out child pornography and claimed to have reported other users for sharing "pretty bad" images.

He expressed remorse, stating he was "sickened and ashamed" of his actions, and his legal team argued for leniency, highlighting his efforts over the past three years to turn his life around.

These efforts included joining Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, seeking support from the child protection charity The Lucy Faithfull Foundation, and receiving treatment for previously undiagnosed ADHD.

His barrister, Victoria Meads, emphasized that the crimes took place during a different period in his life when he was battling depression, suicidal thoughts, and self-harming behaviors, compounded by substance abuse during the isolation of the COVID-19 lockdown.

She described his claims of abusing non-existent relatives as a sign of his fantasist tendencies, influenced by his drug use at the time.

Judge Simon James sentenced Carver to three years in prison.

In his remarks, the judge acknowledged Carver’s efforts to address his issues but emphasized that his extensive online activity and explicit discussions about abusing children warranted immediate custody.

The judge condemned Carver’s actions, stating that he sought to share and promote his warped sexual fantasies, including encouraging others to commit abuse.

The judge highlighted the extreme depravity of Carver’s conduct, noting that his descriptions of raping children and his distribution of images depicting such acts were deeply disturbing.

Although there was no evidence that he had physically harmed children, the judge expressed grave concern about the risk he posed to the safety of children in the future.

Upon release, Carver will be subject to indefinite sex offender notification requirements and a sexual harm prevention order, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing risk he may pose to the community.
