MET POLICE OFFICER FROM MAIDSTONE JAILED AFTER MAKING FALSE SEXUAL ALLEGATIONS
Following an investigation into a fabricated sexual assault allegation made on March 22, 2023, she faced criminal charges. She claimed to have been driving to work around 1pm when an individual posing as a plainclothes officer stopped her and sexually assaulted her.
The Sun reported that PC Evans provided the surname Watson and described an unmarked police vehicle, resulting in the wrongful arrest of PC Alex Watson, who was in an unmarked car nearby at the time.
Watson was detained in front of his wife and children as they returned home from a wedding on March 23.
He spent nearly a full day in custody before being cleared and released without charges once it was uncovered that PC Evans had fabricated the report.
On December 1 of the previous year, she appeared before Southwark Crown Court, denying any attempt to pervert the course of justice.
However, she was convicted on December 8 and subsequently sentenced to one year in prison on March 2.
After her conviction, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cutler from the Met’s Anti-Abuse and Corruption Command emphasized the importance of integrity among officers and condemned the dishonesty, noting that no evidence supported the incident’s occurrence.
She was dismissed from the police force for discreditable conduct following an expedited misconduct hearing on January 30, though she did not attend the hearing and underwent a psychological assessment during sentencing.
The investigation involved about 30 detectives and over 1,500 hours of work.
In her defense, PC Evans stated she had no motive to lie and would not risk her career.
She maintained she did not falsely allege a sexual assault nor identified the man who was wrongfully accused and arrested at his residence.
She expressed a hope that the individual, still in the public eye, would not repeat such false accusations on others more vulnerable, asserting her conscience remains clear.
The report concludes that her conviction for a serious criminal offense justified her dismissal without notice, reflecting the gravity of her misconduct.
