MAN USED AN ONLINE CHATROOM TO PREY ON WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A man with a disturbing obsession with children was heard lamenting "this is going to ruin my life" when he was taken into custody, after police discovered he had stored grotesque images of child abuse on his computer.Rohit Bindhu, 28, who used the online alias M***Diver, targeted a person he believed was a 12-year-old girl via an internet chatroom.
During their interactions, he detailed his sexual fantasies explicitly and forwarded pornographic pictures.
The victim, actually an undercover officer, revealed her true age, prompting Bindhu to send an image of a young girl engaging in sex with an adult man, alongside the message "the younger the better".
While studying in Liverpool and working in healthcare, Bindhu continued exchanging explicit images and videos, encouraged the girl to perform sexual acts, and planned to meet for sex.
He was arrested outside his place of work on June 29, with authorities seizing his electronic devices.
Examination revealed a vast collection of illegal child abuse images on his phone, including 38 Category A, 10 Category B, and five Category C images.
Also found were extreme porn involving animals and a banned animated gif of child rape.
Investigations also uncovered his attempt to buy 15 illegal files for £50 from an online seller.
During the hearing at Liverpool Crown Court on January 27, Bindhu, currently detained at HMP Altcourse, admitted to multiple charges, such as possessing indecent images of children across all categories, possessing extreme and prohibited images, attempting to communicate sexually with a minor, planning a child sex offence, trying to induce a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, inciting a child to view sex acts, and distributing child abuse images.
Sarah Holt, defending, stated that the seven months since his arrest had been "challenging" for him, noting he has no previous convictions.
She said, "He blames himself entirely.
He is aware of the shame caused to his family.
He understands he should have behaved better.
He wants to return to his family as soon as possible, especially because he comes from a respected background, and it is incomprehensible how he ended up committing these crimes." The court sentenced Bindhu to a term of five years and three months, issued a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, and mandated his registration on the sex offenders register for life.
