ROGER HUTCHISON OF SOUTHEND JAILED FOR HUNDREDS OF CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the community of Southend, Roger Hutchison, a 71-year-old resident of Willingale Way, was sentenced to a year in prison after being found guilty of possessing and creating a significant collection of indecent images of children.The court proceedings revealed that Hutchison had admitted to viewing and possessing over 200 such images, with 56 classified in the most severe category of indecency.
According to the prosecution, Charlotte Davison, police became aware of Hutchison’s online activities in September of the previous year.
Evidence recovered by Essex Police indicated that Hutchison’s IP address was used to upload indecent images onto the internet.
This led to a warrant being executed at his residence, resulting in his arrest and the seizure of multiple computers and related equipment.
During police interrogation, Hutchison claimed that he had only seen the indecent images after clicking on pop-up advertisements, denying any active search for such material.
However, investigators uncovered evidence suggesting otherwise.
They found that he had distributed images of a young girl and had used search terms indicating he was actively seeking indecent images.
The court was also told that Hutchison had searched for ways to delete images from his computer and for information related to being on the sex offender’s register.
Hutchison’s defense, represented by Emma Nash, emphasized that he had no prior criminal record and argued that the offenses occurred late in his life, during a period of significant stress and health issues.
Nash highlighted that Hutchison had paid for counseling before his arrest and that his actions were out of character.
She also noted the profound impact of his imprisonment, including the loss of friends and family members who no longer wished to associate with him.
The court heard that Hutchison had committed these offenses between 2013 and 2016, and in April of that year, he was found in possession of extreme pornography and prohibited images of children.
He also admitted to viewing indecent images of children during the same period.
Judge John Lodge sentenced Hutchison to 12 months in prison, ordered him to be on the sex offender’s register for ten years, and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for the same duration.
The court also decreed that all images in his possession would be destroyed, emphasizing the seriousness of the case and the need for ongoing monitoring and protection of the community from such offenses.
