PREDATOR JAILED FOR LIFE
UPDATE: 09/01/2026: Rodney Johnston, aged 67 and detained at HMP Norwich, faced multiple convictions on Friday (January 9), including three counts of coercing a woman into sexual acts through threats or intimidation, two counts of making a person engage in sexual activity without their consent, and one count of intimidating a witness.Throughout the trial at Norwich Crown Court, it was revealed that Johnston systematically exploited the woman, forcing her into sexual encounters with several men.
Authorities uncovered approximately 30,000 images and videos that documented these abusive acts.
The victim’s family has voiced their ongoing pride in her bravery during the legal proceedings.
Judge Alice Robinson remarked on the severity of Johnston’s offences, stating it was 'difficult to comprehend how appalling his offending was,' and highlighted numerous aggravating factors, notably his lack of remorse or acceptance of responsibility.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years.
Senior investigating officer Duncan Woodhams commented on the case, emphasizing the significant effort involved in handling the extensive evidence and acknowledging the victim’s courage in sharing her experiences.
———————————————————————— A 67-year-old man has been found guilty of coercing a woman into sexual activities with multiple men over a span of more than two decades, during which he secretly took photographs and recorded videos of the abuse.
Rodney Johnston, currently held at HMP Norwich, threatened the woman if she did not accede to his demands.
The abuse involved trips to isolated woodland areas or pre-arranged hotel stays, where the victim was forced to engage sexually with various men.
Police launched an investigation after Johnston attempted to take the woman out of the country against her will.
Further police inquiries revealed the extent of his offending.
On Wednesday 3 September, Norwich Crown Court convicted Johnston of multiple charges, including three counts of coercing a woman into sexual intercourse through threats or intimidation between 1 January 1994 and 30 April 2004, two counts of causing sexual activity without consent from 1 May 2004 to 19 July 2024, and one count of witness intimidation on 20 and 28 July 2024.
The jury deliberated for eight weeks before reaching these verdicts.
While the six male and six female jurors failed to decide on a rape charge, prosecutors are considering a retrial and have until 12 September to make this decision.
Throughout the trial, Johnston maintained his innocence, claiming all acts were consensual.
However, the evidence against him was compelling, with the victim testifying that she had not consented and had been coerced and exploited.
Court hearings detailed how Johnston connected with others through adult social networks, sometimes sending mass messages advertising times and locations where men could meet the victim for sex, giving them 'the ok' to abuse her.
He dismissed these messages, claiming they reflected a fantasy and were meant as 'banter,' but overwhelming evidence, including thousands of texts and images, along with the victim’s own account, painted a different picture of persistent abuse.
The victim recounted how Johnston took her to hotels or secluded areas multiple times a week, despite her protests, often making her feel disgusted post-visit.
She also reported threats and punishments if she was uncooperative.
After his arrest on 19 July 2024, Johnston was released on conditional bail but immediately breached this condition and continued to flout it, causing additional distress to the victim.
Duncan Woodhams, the senior investigating officer, expressed support for the verdict, acknowledging the victim’s bravery in supporting the prosecution and hopes for her to begin healing.
Johnston is scheduled for sentencing on 9 December 2025.
