"RAN FROM COURT... BUT COULDN'T ESCAPE JUSTICE" — CHILD SEX OFFENDER JAILED AFTER GROOMING 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL
A convicted predator who groomed and sexually assaulted a 13-year-old child has been jailed — after trying to evade justice by going on the run on the day of his trial.Official documents from Edinburgh Sheriff Court confirm that Roderick Nisbet was found guilty of a sexual offence against a child under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009.
The victim, just 13 years old at the time, was targeted and abused in a case that has left lasting damage for both her and her family.
The reality behind the paperwork — a young girl exploited by an adult who should never have gone near her.
The court handed Nisbet a 12-month prison sentence — the maximum allowed under summary proceedings — underlining the seriousness of the offence.
But his actions didn't stop there.
On the very day he was due to face justice, Nisbet absconded in a desperate attempt to avoid conviction.
He failed.
That decision cost him further, with an additional eight-month sentence imposed for fleeing.
The court also moved to protect the victim long-term.
A 10-year Non-Harassment Order has been put in place, banning any contact whatsoever.
Nisbet will also be subject to strict monitoring under sex offender legislation.
The sentence reflects the limits of the court — but for the victim, the impact goes far beyond months behind bars.
