SEX PREDATOR JAILED: HIGH COURT HANDS DOWN SENTENCE AFTER GUILTY VERDICT
A convicted sex offender has been jailed after being found guilty of a serious sexual assault offence, with strict long-term restrictions now imposed following sentencing at the High Court.Liam Urquhart was previously convicted at Edinburgh High Court of sexual assault by penetration, a serious offence which automatically placed him on the Sex Offenders Register pending sentencing.
On 28 April 2026, at Glasgow High Court, the judge handed down a two-year custodial sentence, ordering Urquhart to serve time in prison for the offence.
The court also confirmed he will remain on the Sex Offenders Register for a minimum of 10 years, meaning he will face strict monitoring and legal reporting requirements long after his release.
A Non-Harassment Order was also granted by the court, banning him from any prohibited contact or conduct towards the victim.
Authorities warned that any breach of the order could result in further criminal prosecution and additional prison time.
Police specialists responsible for managing registered sex offenders will now oversee Urquhart under Scotland’s offender management system, with supervision tailored according to the level of risk he is assessed to pose.
The sentencing follows the completion of background reports and a formal risk assessment requested by the judge before the final decision was made.
The case has attracted significant attention due to the severity of the conviction and the substantial restrictions imposed following sentence.
Urquhart will now begin serving his prison sentence while remaining subject to long-term monitoring under Scotland’s sex offender legislation.
