SWINDON MAN PUNCHED PARTNER, DRAGGED HER ACROSS FLOOR, AVOIDS JAIL
A man was left in tears in the dock as he avoided jail despite repeatedly punching his former partner and dragging her across the floor by her hair.Roby Vong, of Cranmore Avenue, Swindon, physically abused the woman at an Oxford address in November and December last year, a court heard.
Vong, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, committed on November 19, and on count of common assault, committed on December 27.
Vong was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on August 8.
He was in tears in the dock as he was handed a sentence for 10 months, suspended for 18 months.
The court heard that on November 19 he punched her arms and pushed her to the floor, leaving her with a black eye.
On December 27, Vong was doing karaoke and having drinks and his former partner asked him to turn the volume down.
Vong assaulted her and grabbed her by her hair and dragged her across the living room, the court was told.
In a victim personal statement, the woman said: "I put up with long periods of domestic violence.
"I wasn't able to remove myself from him to save me from living in fear.
He threatened to kill me and I took that as genuine.
"I felt heartbroken about the situation, realising the relationship was over.
I have supportive friends and family.
Mr Vong's family has also been supportive."
