ROBERT WILSON FROM WASHINGTON SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY OFFENSES IN NEWCASTLE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, Robert Wilson, a married man residing on Sulgrave Road in Washington, was found to possess a significant collection of illegal and highly disturbing material related to child exploitation.The investigation, carried out by law enforcement officers, uncovered a vast digital library on Wilson’s home computer, which contained a total of 2,309 images and six movies depicting child pornography.
These images and videos were classified as some of the most severe forms of abuse, with 123 images and two movies categorized as level five, indicating the most serious grading of such material.
During the court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court, prosecutor Caroline Goodwin detailed the nature of the material, emphasizing that the content primarily depicted very young children subjected to abuse.
She described the material as a “library of paedophilic material,” highlighting the extent and severity of Wilson’s possession of such content.
In addition to the illegal child abuse images, Wilson also possessed approximately 178,000 images of legal adult pornography, which was also found on his computer.
The prosecution charged Wilson with one count of possessing indecent photographs of children and 13 counts of making such photographs.
Wilson, aged 38, pleaded guilty to all charges.
Representing Wilson in court, his defense lawyer Julian Smith stated that Wilson had no prior criminal record and had led a “blameless and very worthy life” before this incident.
Mr.
Smith emphasized Wilson’s positive personal qualities, describing him as a family man who had been a “credit to his family.” Furthermore, the defense called upon probation experts to assess Wilson’s risk of re-offending.
The experts concluded that Wilson posed a low risk of future offenses and was unlikely to act on any sexual interests involving children in a physical manner.
Despite these mitigating factors, Judge Tony Lancaster sentenced Wilson to 18 months in prison.
In his remarks, the judge condemned the material Wilson had possessed, stating, “The images were of real children who had been abused and exploited for either commercial gain or for adult sexual lust.
Child sex abuse and porn is abhorrent to our society and such abhorrence is reflected by the imposition of custodial sentences.” The case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against child exploitation and the importance of strict legal consequences for those involved in such heinous crimes.
