ROBERT SIMPSON-SCOTT CONVICTED OF MURDER IN CAMBOURNE - HORRIFIC CRIME SHOCKS LOCAL COMMUNITY

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the town of Cambourne, 44-year-old Robert Simpson-Scott has been found guilty of the brutal murder of his partner, Sally Cavender. The tragic incident took place inside her flat in Cambourne during December 2018, leaving the community devastated and raising serious questions about the circumstances leading to her death.

During the trial at Cambridge Crown Court, the court heard harrowing details of the events that culminated in Sally Cavender’s death. Simpson-Scott, who was present at the scene, was heard during a 999 emergency call to have confessed, saying, “I have killed my wife.” This chilling admission came after he had strangled Sally prior to her collapse during an intimate encounter. Sally, aged 55, was discovered with severe injuries that included a fractured spine, multiple fractured ribs, and a significant brain injury. Despite being rushed to the hospital, her injuries proved fatal, and she succumbed to her wounds.

Throughout the proceedings, Simpson-Scott maintained a denial of murder. He claimed that Sally had collapsed during sex and insisted that he did not intend to cause her harm. However, the jury was convinced of his guilt after hearing evidence that painted a different picture. During the emergency call, Simpson-Scott was notably uncooperative, repeatedly stating, “She’s dead, she’s gone, I’ve killed my wife,” which further implicated him in the crime.

In addition to the charges related to Sally Cavender’s death, the court also examined allegations of violence against a neighbor. Simpson-Scott was linked to an incident where he strangled a neighbor until unconscious. Despite this, he was ultimately found not guilty of attempted murder in that case. The court’s decision to convict him of Sally Cavender’s murder was a culmination of evidence that demonstrated a pattern of violent behavior.

The sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at The Old Bailey, where the full extent of Simpson-Scott’s actions will be addressed. The community in Cambourne continues to grapple with the aftermath of this tragic event, and many are calling for justice and increased awareness of domestic violence issues.
