ARMY VETERAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR REPEATED RAPES AND VIOLENT ASSAULT
An army veteran who engaged in a series of serious sexual crimes has been sentenced to 50 months in jail.Robert Millar, aged 34, was convicted of committing repeated sexual assaults on a woman and engaging in violent behavior during the attacks.
His first assault occurred in Elgin on June 1, 2020, where he seized the victim by the neck and subjected her to forced sexual acts.
He assaulted her again on September 23, 2020, at a flat in Elgin, during which he again grabbed her by the neck, slammed her against a wall, and smeared blood on her face.
On the same day, Millar also threatened to harm himself with a knife, damaged the victim's mobile phone, struck a door with a knife, and made threatening remarks.
The judge at the High Court in Edinburgh described the offences as "a number of serious offences," with the rape being the most severe.
Millar, who was also convicted of assault and threatening behavior, previously faced charges at Dr Gray’s Hospital and a police station in Elgin, where he lunged at officers and struck his head against a police vehicle.
The judge indicated that while a full six-year sentence was possible for the rape and assault, it would be reduced to account for time already spent on remand.
Millar will be supervised for three years after release and is required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
His defense lawyer highlighted his military service and noted that drug and alcohol abuse influenced his behavior, but Millar maintains his innocence regarding the rape charges.
The court emphasized the gravity of his actions and imposed strict supervision to prevent future offending.
