ROBERTO MELLISH SENTENCED TO 16 YEARS IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN PORTSMOUTH
Robert Mellish, aged 57 and residing on Hillsley Road in the Paulsgrove area of Portsmouth, has been handed a significant prison sentence of 16 years following his conviction on multiple serious charges related to child sexual abuse.The sentencing took place at Portsmouth Crown Court on Wednesday, October 2, after a jury found him guilty of a series of heinous offences involving a young boy under the age of 13.
During the trial, the court heard that Mellish was responsible for two counts of raping the young victim on at least three separate occasions.
In addition to these grave allegations, he was also convicted of four counts of causing a child under 13 to view images depicting sexual activity, a crime that underscores the disturbing nature of his misconduct.
Further charges included one count of assaulting the boy by touching him and three counts of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child under 13.
These offences paint a disturbing picture of the abuse inflicted upon the young victim, and the court's decision reflects the severity of Mellish's actions.
Detective Constable Emily Sargent, a member of the Eastern Child Investigation Team, expressed her sentiments following the conviction.
She acknowledged the emotional toll on the victims and their families, stating, “Whilst I know this result cannot remove the memories of what Mellish has done for the young victim or their family, I am pleased that justice has been served for them and that Mellish is now behind bars where he belongs.” She also praised the bravery and steadfastness of the victims and their families throughout the legal process.
Similarly, Detective Sergeant Lucy Gransden from the same investigative team highlighted the efforts of everyone involved in bringing Mellish to justice.
She emphasized the importance of the conviction in reassuring other victims that authorities take such reports very seriously.
Gransden added, “I would also like to thank everyone who has been involved in this case for their hard work, which has helped secure this conviction.
