PORTSMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR STALKING EX-PARTNER OVER TEN MONTHS
At 28 years old, Billy Griffiths of Ship Leopard Street pleaded guilty to stalking his former partner over a period from September 2019 to November 2020.The court heard that Griffiths carried out a series of damaging and intimidating acts, including smashing windows at his ex-partner’s residence in Paulsgrove and slashing her car tires on September 30 of the previous year.
His actions also involved relentless contact through daily calls and texts from blocked numbers for six months, some containing threatening language, qualifying as continuous harassment.
Furthermore, on October 27 and early October 28, he deliberately left butter containing glass and anti-freeze at her front door, which her dog nearly ingested, requiring urgent vet attention.
That night, he also visited her home with several associates, making threats and knocking on her door.
The following week, Griffiths contacted her, claiming to have broken into her house and stolen electrical items, which she later reported missing.
The court sentenced him to a 20-month prison term and issued a restraining order forbidding him from contacting her and entering her property.
Detective Constable Lauren Howard remarked, “The prolonged behaviour of Griffiths has caused the victim significant distress.” She stressed the importance of recognizing stalking as a crime driven by obsession and persistence, urging victims to come forward with reports.
The court’s ruling demonstrates a clear opposition to such conduct, backed by a multi-agency response aimed at preventing stalking and harassment cases.
