PAEDOPHILE WHO ABUSED GIRL MORE THAN 20 YEARS AGO JAILED

In a recent case, a paedophile convicted of abusing a girl over twenty years ago has been sentenced, with authorities reaffirming ongoing support.

The offender, Robert Jones, committed sexual offenses against a teenage girl during 1998 and 1999, when he was in his late 30s.

After enduring the effects of these crimes silently for nearly twenty years, the victim finally found the strength to speak out in 2021, which led to a police investigation.

Jones, aged 64, was arrested on the night she reported her abuse and has continued to deny the allegations.

In 2022, he was charged with two offenses gross indecency with a child and indecent assault which took place before the implementation of the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

A jury at Newcastle Crown Court examined the evidence and convicted him earlier this year of both crimes.

On May 7, Jones was sentenced to a three-and-a-half-year prison term at the same court.

He was also mandated to register as a sex offender for life, and was issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) along with a restraining order.

Northumbria Police’s Detective Constable Andrea Nixon praised the victim’s bravery and expressed hope that her story encourages others to come forward with allegations of abuse.
