ROBERT GRAHAM BARTER FROM EXETER AVOIDS PRISON AFTER CHILD IMAGE OFFENCES
A convicted sex offender from Exeter has narrowly escaped a prison sentence after being found in possession of hundreds of child sexual images, including many depicting rape and torture of young children.
Robert Graham Barter, 37, of Stemson Avenue, Pinhoe, appeared at Exeter Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to charges of possessing indecent images of children and breaching a sexual offences prevention order issued in 2011.
The court was informed that Barter had accumulated these images over a period of five years.
Police analyzed the images and classified them into categories: 101 in Category A, 677 in Category B, and 274 in Category C.
It was also revealed that Barter had a prior conviction related to a sexual offence in 2011.
The judge imposed a 32-week prison sentence, which was suspended for two years.
Additionally, Barter was placed under a curfew for four weeks and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order was issued, including a ban on using any device capable of accessing the internet.
He is also required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
