ROBERT BRADBURY FROM BURNLEY AND DAREN FACES JAIL AGAIN OVER ONLINE SEXUALISED CHAT AND BREACHES
In April 2019, a convicted sex offender from Burnley is facing the possibility of imprisonment once more after engaging in 'sexualised chat' on the internet without informing authorities of his online aliases. The court heard that Robert Bradbury, who was previously convicted of possessing indecent images of children and subsequently placed on the sex offenders' register in 2014, had been using the pseudonym 'cheshirenudie' on the online platform 'True Nudist'.According to the prosecution, Mrs. Alex Mann, Bradbury was required by law to notify the police of any names or aliases he used online so that his activities could be monitored appropriately. However, it was revealed that he failed to disclose his online identity, raising concerns given his prior convictions. The court emphasized that the nature of the chat was sexualised, which is particularly troubling considering Bradbury's criminal history. The magistrates in Burnley were informed that Bradbury, aged 54 and residing on Burnley Road in Briercliffe, had admitted to failing in his duty to update the sex offenders' register between February 1st and March 24th of that year. He was granted unconditional bail and scheduled to appear at Burnley Crown Court on May 28th to face these charges.
In a separate incident in November 2017, police officers conducting a compliance check at Bradbury’s residence in Darwen uncovered further violations. During the visit, officers found a phone and an iPad neatly arranged on the sofa. Initially, Bradbury claimed these were the only internet-enabled devices he possessed. However, further investigation revealed two additional laptop computers hidden under his bed’s mattress. Bradbury, aged 53 and living on William Street in Darwen, pleaded guilty to breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) that had been imposed following his 2014 conviction.
Prosecutor Catherine Allan explained that Bradbury had been jailed in 2014 for possessing indecent images of children, and the SHPO was part of his sentence. When officers arrived at his flat, there was no answer to the door, but Bradbury later contacted them and allowed entry. Upon discovering the laptops, Bradbury reportedly began to shake and exclaimed, 'What have I done?' When questioned about the contents of the computers, he admitted that they contained indecent images. The laptops were seized for examination, and further charges could be brought if illegal material was found.
Bradbury’s defense attorney, Simon Farnsworth, stated that since his client’s release from prison, he had returned to a career in clinical sales, earning approximately £30,000 annually as a sales manager. Farnsworth also explained that the delay in opening the door was due to a malfunctioning buzzer at Bradbury’s flat. He maintained that Bradbury believed the images on his computers were not illegal and argued that the only breach was his failure to produce the laptops during the police visit. The case was adjourned for sentencing at Preston Crown Court, where the court will determine the appropriate penalty for these violations.
