A prominent American football club based in the Highlands has issued a firm reassurance to parents and young athletes that their environment remains safe and secure, despite the recent conviction of a former coach on serious sex offence charges involving teenage boys. Robbie Paulin, a resident of Canal Road in Inverness, was found guilty of engaging in disturbing acts that included paying teenage boys to pose for explicit photographs and videos under the guise of creating a sex education film.

Following a four-day trial last week, Sheriff Eilidh MacDonald delivered a stern judgment, describing Paulin, aged 39, as “very dangerous.” The sheriff emphasized that Paulin exhibited a level of grooming and manipulation that is rarely seen in court, highlighting the severity of his misconduct. The court proceedings revealed that Paulin, who had been involved in coaching sessions at various schools across the Highlands, was charged with two counts of arranging or facilitating the involvement of minors in pornography. These offences spanned the years 2012 to 2014 and involved victims aged 15 and 17.

During the trial, it was established that one of the teenage boys was coerced into posing naked for indecent photographs, some of which Paulin himself took. Video footage was also produced, capturing the teenager performing a solo sex act. The second victim was similarly asked to pose naked while Paulin took indecent images, including photographs of his private parts, and attempted to record a video of the teenager performing a solo sexual act. The court heard that these acts were allegedly carried out in exchange for payment, which was purportedly provided by a third party. Throughout the proceedings, Paulin maintained his innocence, denying any wrongdoing, and was acquitted of three additional sex-related charges.

In response to the court’s verdict, a spokesperson for the Highland Wildcats, the football club associated with Paulin, described the details of the offences as “distressing.” The club has since conducted a comprehensive review of its safeguarding protocols to ensure such incidents do not recur. The spokesperson emphasized that none of the misconduct occurred during any official training sessions or group activities organized by the club. Upon learning of the allegations against Paulin, the club immediately suspended him from all duties and responsibilities, reaffirming their commitment to the safety and well-being of their players.

Looking ahead, Robbie Paulin’s sentencing has been postponed until April 22, when background reports will be considered. Bail has been continued until that date, allowing him to remain free pending further legal proceedings.
