RICHARD VAUGHAN SENTENCED FOR RAPE OF YOUNG GIRL IN ST ASAPH
In August 2016, a disturbing case unfolded involving a man from St Asaph who was convicted of heinous crimes against a young girl. Richard Mark Vaughan, aged 48 and residing at Bro Havard in St Asaph, faced serious charges including rape, sexual assault, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The allegations centered around an 8-year-old girl, and the case drew significant attention due to the severity of the accusations.Following a thorough trial at Mold Crown Court, a jury found Vaughan guilty on all counts. The court's decision resulted in a substantial prison sentence of 12 years, reflecting the gravity of his offenses committed against a child under the age of 13. The judge presiding over the case, Niclas Parry, also imposed a sexual harm prevention order on Vaughan, aiming to prevent any future offenses and protect the community from potential harm.
Prior to the trial, Vaughan had been released on bail but failed to appear for a scheduled plea hearing, prompting authorities to issue a warrant for his arrest. Subsequently, he was remanded into custody and remained in detention until his trial commenced on July 25. The trial concluded on July 27, leading to Vaughan’s sentencing, which confirmed the court’s stance on the severity of his crimes and the need for a lengthy custodial sentence to serve as justice for the victim and society at large.
