JAIL FOR PAEDOPHILIC GIRLFRIEND BEATER
A MAN who pushed his girlfriend off the bed with such force that she broke her jaw has been jailed for a year.Richard Hague, aged 24, of Reynolds Street in Latchford, broke his 17-year-old girlfriend’s jaw when his forearm hit her face as he pushed her from the bed.
On Monday Warrington Crown Court heard how the couple were prone to loud rows when they lived together with their child, who was four months old at the time of the attack, and Hague’s parents.
On July 8 this year, after the couple had been drinking, they got into a row with her scratching Hague’s neck and eventually pushing him against a wall, where he banged his head.
The court heard that he retaliated by pushing her from the bed, not intending to cause her a serious injury.
But she broke her jaw so badly she required surgery to insert plates and screws to fix it.
“The injury was serious but the action was not intended to strike her at all, it was to push her off because she had been repeatedly assaulting him,” said Michael Davies, defending.
Hague, a father of five, has a number of previous convictions including one for assaulting his dad.
He had been in a relationship with the victim for two years.
In her police statement she said he ‘is not able to just talk and sort things out – he always has to shout’.
She also said he had hit her on ‘only’ one occasion.
His mum told police she was ‘scared’ of him.
Sentencing, Judge Stephen Clarke told Hague his actions were so serious only a custodial sentence would do.
He sentenced him to 12 months in prison, less the 55 days he has spent on remand.
