RICHARD DIMMOCK FROM TELFORD SENTENCED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN SHREWSBURY COURT
In a case that has shocked the community of Telford, Richard Dimmock, a 36-year-old resident of Waltondale, Woodside, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being convicted of serious sexual offences committed during his teenage years. The offences, which took place between 1996 and 1999, involved the rape of one child and the sexual assault of another, leaving lasting scars on the victims.
During the court proceedings at Shrewsbury Crown Court, the jury unanimously found Dimmock guilty of two counts of raping a child and seven counts of indecent assault.
Despite his denial of all charges, the evidence presented was compelling enough to secure a conviction.
Dimmock showed no visible emotion when Judge Anthony Lowe delivered the sentence, which amounted to ten years and nine months in prison.
The judge emphasized the severity of the psychological harm inflicted upon the victims, highlighting the long-term trauma caused by Dimmock’s actions.
Judge Lowe pointed out that the offences occurred when Dimmock was between 14 and 16 years old, a factor that was taken into account during sentencing.
The impact statements read out in court revealed the profound mental health struggles faced by the victims, including one who attempted to take her own life, continues to suffer from nightmares and flashbacks, and is on medication.
She expressed pride in her resilience for enduring the court process.
Prosecutor Mr.
Benjamin Lawrence detailed the devastating effects on the victims, underscoring the trauma and mental health issues that have persisted long after the offences.
The court heard that one victim had attempted self-harm and continues to grapple with the emotional aftermath of the abuse.
Judge Lowe also addressed Dimmock’s history of bullying and violent behaviour, describing him as someone who had threatened violence and acted aggressively.
The judge acknowledged Dimmock’s troubled upbringing, noting that he had a dysfunctional childhood with limited parental support.
As part of his sentence, Dimmock will serve half of his term in custody and will be required to remain on the sex offender register for life, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes.
Earlier in March 2019, Dimmock was found guilty of these non-recent sex offences against children, marking a significant victory for justice in Telford.
Detective Sergeant Andy Dawson, who led the investigation, praised the bravery of the victims, stating, “The victims in this case were incredibly brave and showed a great deal of courage throughout.
I’d like to thank them.
We know how difficult it can be to come forward and report these types of offences; however, I’m pleased they have and that their perpetrator will now face the consequences.” Richard Dimmock is scheduled to be sentenced on April 5, with the court ensuring that justice is served for the victims and the community of Telford.
