TELFORD SEX OFFENDER DEAN SMITHSENTENCED FOLLOWING ONLINE CHILD PROTECTION OPERATION
An individual named Dean Smith, from Telford, has been sentenced following an online child protection operation conducted by volunteer groups working in this area.
According to information released publicly on 26 January 2023 by Confronted and Caught, Dean Smith received a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for a period of 18 months.
In addition to the suspended custodial sentence, the court imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) lasting 10 years.
The order places legally enforceable restrictions on Smith’s behaviour and activities for the duration of the order.
Smith was also made subject to a 10-year notification requirement, meaning he must comply with statutory sex offender notification obligations for that period.
The operation that led to the case was carried out by members associated with The Forbidden Scotland and STOP, with the outcome later publicised by Confronted and Caught.
The poster issued by Confronted and Caught publicly acknowledged the contribution of a decoy referred to as “Vee”, as well as the involvement of the partner groups who conducted the sting operation.
