RICHARD BROWN SENT TO JAIL FOR CHILD SEX ABUSE IN CLAYTON AND LEIGH
In a significant case that highlights the ongoing fight against child abuse, Richard Brown, a 65-year-old man from Leigh, has been convicted and sentenced for historic sexual offenses committed over two decades ago.The conviction stems from a trial held at Manchester Crown Court, where Brown was found guilty of six counts of indecent assault.
The court sentenced him to four years in prison and mandated that he register as a sex offender for life, underscoring the severity of his crimes.
Brown's offenses date back to the early 1980s, specifically between 1981 and 1982, when he indecently assaulted a young girl who was only 10 years old at the time.
The assault took place at a residence in Clayton, a district within Manchester.
The victim, whose courage in coming forward was commended by authorities, reported the abuse to police in June 2008, more than 25 years after the incidents occurred.
Detective Constable Roger Jones, a member of the Child Abuse Investigation Team based at West Didsbury Police Station, publicly praised the victim for her bravery in revealing her ordeal.
He emphasized that the victim had trusted Brown, only to be betrayed by his prolonged abuse.
Detective Jones highlighted the profound and lasting impact such offenses can have on victims, but also expressed relief that her courage led to Brown’s conviction.
He stated, “The victim trusted Brown but he repaid that by abusing her over a prolonged period.
These offences have understandably had a devastating effect on the victim but thankfully she mustered the courage to come forward and as a result a sex offender has been taken off the streets.
Today’s sentence demonstrates our commitment to thoroughly investigating all such offences, regardless of when they occurred.” Brown’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to victims of child abuse, regardless of how much time has passed since the crimes were committed.
