FILMMAKER JAILED FOR STALKING AND HARASSMENT IN MANCHESTER
Riagain Grainger, aged 22 and a filmmaker from Trillick in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, received a sentence of two and a half years in prison for stalking an ex-friend in Manchester. He confessed to hassling a 21-year-old woman by sending her numerous messages, which included photographs of her residence, from various anonymous accounts beginning in September 2019.
The woman recounted that Grainger’s conduct caused her persistent nightmares and a continual sense of insecurity.
She explained: "Every time I blocked an account, a new one would appear within five minutes.
I would wake up to multiple accounts messaging me, with numerous messages.
It felt like I could never catch a breath before another arrived." Her harassment comprised threats to harm and kill her, and Grainger was observed near her home multiple times.
The court issued an indefinite restraining order, underlining the severity of the emotional distress caused.
The victim shared that she “never felt safe” and remains haunted by his actions, even experiencing nightly disturbances.
Detective Constable Thomas Small commented, “Everyone deserves to live free from fear and harassment, and Grainger’s actions made that impossible for this young woman.” After admitting guilt to stalking that caused significant alarm and distress, Grainger was convicted, and the court sentenced him to prison, demonstrating societal rejection of such conduct.
