POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR ABUSING TRUST AND SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
A police officer who abused his position to form sexual relationships with women has been judged to have breached professional conduct standards during an accelerated misconduct hearing conducted on Friday.
Rhett Wilson, aged 28, had a history of misconduct involving the pursuit of sexual relationships and stalking vulnerable women, beginning in December 2019 after joining West Mercia Police in 2019.
Wilson was found to have used his role as an officer in Shropshire to meet domestic violence victims and engage in inappropriate relationships.
Despite resigning from the force in July 2020 while under investigation, he was subsequently convicted and sentenced to two years and eight months in prison in January after admitting three offences of corruption and being found guilty of perverting the course of justice by deleting evidence.
The hearing concluded that Wilson's actions would have led to his dismissal had he not chosen to resign.
Wilson has now been barred from working in any UK police force in the future and has been added to the College of Policing barred list.
The chief constable emphasized that his conduct was thoroughly reprehensible and acknowledged it would damage public trust in the police force, reaffirming the commitment to root out corrupt officers.
