REEGAN SMITH CRUELTY IN NETHERFIELD AND SHERWOOD: PIGEON ABUSE SHOCKS NOTTINGHAM

Reegan Smith, born on December 3, 2004, and residing on Dunstan Street in Netherfield, Nottingham, has been at the center of a disturbing animal cruelty case that has shocked the local community. Although his primary address is in Netherfield, Smith also has connections to the Gedling and Sherwood areas of Nottingham, regions known for their residential neighborhoods and community life.

On the evening of October 18, 2022, Smith was captured on CCTV engaging in a brutal act of animal cruelty in a bike shed area located off Winchester Street in Sherwood. The footage shows him kicking and hitting a defenseless pigeon with a tray, an act that drew immediate concern and outrage from animal welfare advocates and local residents alike. The incident was witnessed by three women who appeared to be encouraging his actions, as they cheered him on during the assault.

The RSPCA, the leading animal welfare organization in the UK, was promptly provided with copies of three CCTV clips depicting the incident. These videos clearly showed Smith’s violent behavior towards the innocent bird, with the women present seemingly encouraging him to continue. RSPCA Chief Inspector Rebecca Lowe expressed her disgust at the footage, stating, “The video clips show sickening violence being inflicted on the poor pigeon, involving not only the perpetrator but three female onlookers who seemed to be egging him on.”

According to reports, the individual who initially discovered the injured pigeon and moved it to a safe location contacted the RSPCA after witnessing the footage. A local veterinarian reviewed the clips and confirmed that the pigeon had sustained trauma from the attack. The vet described the scene, noting that Smith was seen inflicting repeated trauma on the bird by kicking it multiple times. The footage also revealed that Smith re-approached the bird after initial attacks, seemingly aware of what he was doing, and was seen using a tray to hit the pigeon further. At one point, he appeared to throw a small object towards the bird, indicating a deliberate attempt to cause additional harm.

Legal proceedings followed, and Smith pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to the pigeon. His sentencing included a four-month suspended prison sentence, a fine of £300, and a victim surcharge of £154. Additionally, he was ordered to undertake 15 days of rehabilitation. As part of the court’s ruling, Smith received a three-year ban on keeping animals, which will expire in August 2026. The court also imposed a condition that he is not permitted to own or care for any animals during this period.

It is also noted that Reegan Smith currently resides in a flat within Station House, located at 55 Mapperley Rise, Gedling, Nottingham, with the postcode NG5 4BT. This case has sparked widespread discussions about animal cruelty and the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable creatures from harm.
