A man involved in an illegal cannabis operation was sentenced to 14 years in prison after a tragic explosion killed a seven-year-old boy.
The incident occurred while Archie York and his family slept in their home on Violet Close, Benwell, Newcastle, unaware that over 100 butane canisters were stored in a flat directly beneath them.
The flat below was being used to produce a potent form of cannabis called "shatter," which was then processed into cannabis gummies.
Authorities determined that the explosion was caused by the ignition of accumulated liquid butane gas, which had been released during the illegal manufacturing process.
The highly flammable gas had built up within the premises, leading to the devastating blast.
Reece Galbraith, aged 33, was convicted of the manslaughter of Archie and Jason Laws, who was involved alongside him in the criminal activity.
He also pleaded guilty to charges of cannabis production and being involved in its supply.
