HAMILTON THUG REECE DIGAN FOUND GUILTY OF DOMESTIC ABUSE
Reece Digan, born 18 April 2004, has been found guilty following a trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court of serious offences under the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016 and the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010.The case centred on an incident that took place on 12 June 2021 at 8A Windmill Road, Hamilton, where Digan subjected his then-partner, Erin Mulholland, who was aged just sixteen at the time, to a violent and abusive attack.
During the proceedings the court heard how Digan’s behaviour was threatening, intimidating, and controlling, and that he had brandished a knife during the course of the incident.
Prosecutors emphasised that the conduct was aggravated by the involvement of a partner or ex-partner, which made the offence particularly serious under Scottish law.
After a contested trial, the Sheriff found Digan guilty on all relevant charges.
The court ordered that sentencing be deferred to a later date to allow background reports and risk assessments to be completed before a final decision is made on the appropriate punishment.
The case has been cited as an example of the Abusive Behaviour and Sexual Harm (Scotland) Act 2016 being used effectively to protect victims of domestic and partner abuse.
It underlines the commitment of the Procurator Fiscal Service and the Scottish courts to tackling violence and intimidation within intimate relationships.
