GLOUCESTER MAN SENTENCED FOR BRUTAL ATTACK AND THREATENING MESSAGES
A man from Gloucester’s Regent Street, named Redwan Karim, was convicted of a violent assault on a woman. The incident began when Karim visited her home during the early hours and subsequently took her to a hotel in Cheltenham, where he physically attacked her.
Court proceedings revealed that Karim grabbed the woman by her hair; when she pushed him away, she fell to the ground.
He then stomped on her head with significant force and struck her with punches, leading to the bursting of her eardrums.
The woman suffered serious injuries, including cerebrospinal fluid leakage from her ears, severe bruising, swelling on her face and head, a perforated right eardrum, jaw pain, and nausea.
Detectives uncovered threatening messages sent by Karim in advance, which included warnings of serious harm.
The victim read a personal statement, describing her feelings of emptiness and frustration, and her struggles to cope after the attack.
Evidence retrieved from Karim’s mobile phone confirmed he issued threats in November 2023.
Although he initially claimed innocence, Karim changed his plea to guilty during his trial in February.
He received a sentence of three years and six months behind bars for the assault, along with an extra six months, served concurrently, for malicious communications.
A 10-year restraining order was also enacted against the victim.
Detective Constable Sarah Mobbs commented that the assault was "brutal" and praised the victim for her bravery in reporting the crime.
The court’s ruling reinforced the message that violence toward women will not be tolerated and that those responsible will be prosecuted.
