RAYMOND HAY FROM KELSO CONVICTED OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN SELKIRK
In August 2018, a man from Kelso, identified as Raymond Hay, was convicted of serious historical sexual offenses involving two young girls. The case was heard at Selkirk Sheriff Court, where a jury found Hay guilty after a three-day trial.Raymond Hay, aged 55 and residing on Roxburgh Street in Kelso, had previously denied the allegations. The charges stemmed from incidents that took place several decades ago, with the first involving an accusation of lewd, indecent, and libidinous conduct towards a girl aged between seven and eleven during the 1980s. This particular incident was alleged to have occurred at a house in Greenlaw.
The second set of allegations involved multiple occasions where Hay was accused of engaging in lewd, indecent, and libidinous acts towards a second girl, who was between four and nine years old at the time. These incidents also took place many years ago, and the details of the specific locations were not disclosed during the trial.
Following the presentation of evidence and testimonies over the course of the trial, the jury reached a verdict of guilty. The court has deferred sentencing for Hay until next month, pending the preparation of background reports that will likely influence the final penalty.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the serious nature of the allegations and the fact that the crimes occurred many years in the past, highlighting ongoing concerns about historical abuse and the importance of justice for victims.
