RAYMOND CASSON'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN CARLISLE, WATERLOOVILLE, AND WHITEHAVEN REVEALED

In a disturbing series of incidents spanning several years, Raymond Casson, a man with a troubling criminal history, has been convicted of multiple sexual offenses involving minors across different locations, including Carlisle, Waterlooville, and Whitehaven.

One of the most heinous acts occurred in February 2011, when Casson, then 46 years old, was found guilty of exposing himself to an eight-year-old girl in Portsmouth. The incident took place outside her grandmother’s residence in Buckland, Portsmouth, on a sunny day in July of the previous year. The young girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was playing on her scooter when Casson approached and exposed himself to her. The child immediately ran inside, visibly distressed, to inform her family of what had happened.

While her mother contacted the police, her grandmother took it upon herself to locate the suspect. She soon found Casson staring at children in a nearby play area. It was later revealed that Casson had prior convictions for possessing child pornography and sexual assaults on children. At the time of the incident, he was under a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, which explicitly prohibited him from approaching children and accessing the internet. Despite these restrictions, he was found guilty of breaching the order in addition to the charge of exposure.

During the trial at Portsmouth Crown Court, Casson denied the allegations, claiming that he was merely adjusting his uncomfortable underwear at the time. However, the jury did not accept his version of events, and he was convicted. Judge Richard Price was highly critical of Casson’s defense, describing it as “ridiculous” and noting his arrogant demeanor during testimony. The judge emphasized that Casson’s decision not to plead guilty had caused the young girl unnecessary trauma, stating, “You could and should have spared her that.”

The judge also praised the bravery of the young girl, highlighting how her detailed testimony helped the jury reach a swift verdict. He remarked that her description of Casson was so accurate that her grandmother was able to identify him easily. Casson was sentenced to three years in prison and will be registered as a sex offender for life. His residence at Arragon Court, Waterlooville, was noted, and the court ordered him to remain on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

In a separate case dating back to December 2007, Casson’s predatory behavior was again brought to light. At that time, he was living in Whitehaven and was involved in a series of disturbing incidents in local shops. Over a period of six months, Casson, then 43, targeted young girls in Carlisle, particularly in clothing stores such as New Look and H&M. He would visit these shops during his lunch breaks and after work, carefully selecting locations where he could observe and approach young girls.

His actions included touching and squeezing the bottoms of girls aged between 11 and 16. One victim, a 12-year-old girl, was approached in October of that year while she was shopping with her older cousins. Casson approached her and inappropriately felt her bottom. Several months later, a 13-year-old girl reported that he had squeezed her bottom in the same store. Police investigations revealed CCTV footage of Casson’s activities, which led to his arrest in September of that year. He admitted to two counts of sexual assault and a public order offense during his trial.

Further, in October, Casson approached two 10-year-old girls in Brampton and asked them a rude question, demonstrating his continued predatory behavior. The court heard that Casson’s offenses were carefully planned, with reconnaissance trips to identify suitable victims. His defense acknowledged multiple charges, and he was ordered to re-register as a sex offender, prohibited from living with or working around children under 18, and banned from accessing the internet.

Throughout the proceedings, the court described Casson as a calculating and persistent offender, emphasizing the seriousness of his crimes. The judge sentenced him to 16 months in prison, reflecting the gravity of his actions and the need for public protection. The case has drawn significant concern from local communities in Carlisle, Waterlooville, and Whitehaven, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by individuals with such criminal histories.
