RAJVEER MAHEY SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR BRUTAL MURDER IN BILSTON
Rajveer Mahey has been handed a life sentence in prison after being found guilty of the murder of his wife, Kamaljeet, in their family home located in Bilston. The court proceedings revealed that Mahey carried out a savage and horrifying assault on his wife, inflicting a total of 28 stab wounds during the attack. The incident took place in the early hours of December 15, with Mahey leading Kamaljeet to the garage of their residence before launching a violent attack that involved stabbing and slashing her multiple times.Judge Michael Chambers KC described the assault as both "unnecessary and brutal," emphasizing the severity of the crime. He pointed out that Mahey’s actions had not only taken his wife’s life but also robbed their children of their mother, leaving a lasting impact on the family. During the trial, Mahey initially claimed that he acted in self-defense, asserting that his wife had raised a knife first, which prompted him to defend himself. However, forensic evidence presented in court contradicted his account, clearly indicating that Mahey was the aggressor in the attack.
Surveillance footage from a neighbor’s CCTV camera captured the couple walking towards the garage at approximately 04:35 GMT. The footage was followed by sounds of screams and then an eerie silence, suggesting the moment of the attack. At the time, their teenage children were asleep upstairs, unaware of the violence unfolding below. Mahey, aged 50, had previously admitted guilt during a hearing, and nearly two hours after the incident, he contacted relatives to confess to the crime. During this call, he also expressed intentions of taking his own life.
In a poignant victim impact statement, his 19-year-old son described Kamaljeet as "my mum was my world," conveying the profound grief and devastation caused by her loss. The son also highlighted that her death was a consequence of Mahey’s persistent anger and domestic violence. The court heard evidence that Kamaljeet had endured prolonged periods of abuse within their home. During police interviews, Mahey initially claimed that the injuries he inflicted were accidental, suggesting that they occurred during a fight when his wife supposedly raised a knife. However, forensic investigations proved that Mahey was the attacker, and that Kamaljeet sustained injuries while trying to defend herself from his assault.
