RAJESH SAINI JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN DERBY
In June 2022, a man from Derby was sentenced to prison after being convicted of serious child sex offences, following a harrowing account from his victim.Rajesh Saini, aged 39 and formerly residing on Watson Street in Derby, was found guilty of multiple charges related to the sexual abuse of a young girl during his teenage years.
According to court records, Saini was convicted after a trial held at Derby Crown Court.
The jury deliberated and returned a verdict in April, finding him guilty of two counts of indecent assault against a girl under the age of 14, as well as a charge of raping a girl aged between 13 and 15.
Despite his initial denial of the allegations, the evidence presented in court led to his conviction.
The victim, who bravely came forward to report the crimes, described the emotional toll the ordeal had taken on her.
In her victim impact statement, she revealed that she had suffered from depression and anxiety since the abuse.
She recounted the difficulty she faced in reporting the crimes, stating, "Going to the police was the hardest thing I have ever, and will ever, do." She also expressed a sense of relief and validation, saying, "I think about what I went through every day of my life, and I am sure that will never change but at least now I have had the acknowledgment and the justice that I craved." Following the conviction, Saini was sentenced to five and a half years in prison.
The court noted that because the offences occurred when he was a teenager, the sentencing guidelines applicable to his age at the time were used to determine his punishment.
The case highlights the importance of speaking out against abuse and the justice system’s role in holding offenders accountable, especially in cases involving vulnerable victims.
