THIEF MOLESTED GIRL AND THREATENED TO SHARE ABUSE PHOTOS IF SHE RANG POLICE DURING KNIFEPOINT ROBBERY

A thief who sexually assaulted a teenager and took pictures of her during a terrifying knifepoint robbery has been locked up for more than 14 years.

Kai Wang, 38, abused the 13-year-old while he and associate Quan Chan conducted the violent raid at a shop in Tottenham on January 22.

While Chan forced the child's mother to take him to her home so he could steal cash, Wang molested the girl, photographed her and threatened to share the images if she went to police.

On Tuesday (May 14), both men were jailed for their respective crimes during that shocking robbery at Wood Green Crown Court.

'Only interested in the money' On the evening of the robbery, the mother and daughter were working at a shop when Chan and Wang entered; both were wearing beanie hats and scarves partially covering their faces.

Chan claimed he was going to place an order for food before he grabbed the woman and placed his left hand across her neck.

Having pulled out a knife and forced it against the woman’s throat, he told her not to scream and to obey their demands.

The CCTV system in the store was then disabled and removed by the attackers.

The twisted duo pushed the woman and her daughter into the back of the shop before covering their mouths brown tape and binding their hands and feet to a chair with rope.

Chan kept repeating that he was only interested in money and that if the woman did not cooperate, her daughter would be hurt.

Wang then brandished a knife towards the child’s face which resulted in her nose being slashed.

Although cash was recovered, the greedy men demanded more money, threatening to take the girl outside.

Chan stated that he had been watching their house and believed there would be more cash there.

Due to the absolute fear for her daughter’s safety, the woman agreed to go to the house with him.

They left the shop while Wang remained alone with the child.

“It was abundantly clear from the on-set of this investigation, the significant harm that these men posed to the public and the levels of violence they were prepared to use,” said detective inspector Paul Ridley after the hearing.

"It would be difficult for anyone to imagine the sheer fear and trauma caused to these victims, in particular the young girl.

“Identifying and arresting them as quickly as possible was imperative to prevent any further attacks.

"The major breakthrough in this case came when an officer from the investigation team viewed the E-fit produced of one of the attackers which was strikingly similar to a photograph of Wang.

“The subsequent arrest and search of their premises revealed a vast array of evidence which directly linked them to the crime.

"The significant custodial sentences handed down by the judge demonstrate the abundance of aggravating factors in this case including the use of weapons, binding the victims, detaining them for a prolonged period and their additional degradation.

“This city is a much safer place with these violent and dangerous men behind bars.

“I would like to praise the victims for their bravery and I truly hope that this sentence provides a degree of closure.”
