SWANSEA MAN JAILED AFTER BREACHING FIVE-YEAR RESTRAINING ORDER DESPITE LIVING WITH EX-PARTNER
A man named Phillip Aston, residing on Pentregethin Road, Cwmbwrla, appeared in court after a series of breaches of a restraining order. The court heard that despite being subject to a five-year restraining order following a previous conviction for stalking his former partner, Aston had been living with her for several months with her consent.
The incident involved Aston arriving at his partner's house in the middle of the night, banging on the door and repeatedly switching the power off and on, causing distress.
The woman attempted to deter him by throwing her vape in an effort to make him leave, but Aston continued his disruptive behaviour by banging and fiddling with the electricity.
When police arrived around 12:30 AM, Aston was found sitting in his Ford Transit outside the property.
He was arrested and during his police interview, claimed he thought the restraining order had been lifted.
Aston has a significant criminal history, including 16 previous convictions for 29 offenses, notably seven breaches of court orders.
In May 2024, he was convicted of stalking the same complainant and sentenced to 32 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, with additional orders for drug rehabilitation and a curfew.
After pleading guilty to breaching the restraining order, Aston was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, with 20 weeks of his earlier suspended sentence activated to run consecutively, totalling 28 weeks in custody.
The judge noted that Aston and the complainant had maintained regular contact, which was mutual, despite the restraining order remaining in effect until 2029.
The court emphasized the seriousness of breaching the restraining order but acknowledged the ongoing relationship and contact between Aston and the victim.
