PHILIPPE BEAUGARD OF JERSEY CAUGHT WITH OVER 200 CHILD INDECENT IMAGES
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Jersey, Philippe Gerard Beaugeard, aged 53, was found to possess an alarming collection of indecent images of children on his mobile devices.The incident came to light after Beaugeard was arrested following an encounter with a 13-year-old boy, during which he provided his mobile phone number to the youth.
The police investigation revealed that Beaugeard's actions extended beyond this initial contact.
Last June, authorities were alerted when the mother of the teenage boy reported that her son had been approached by Beaugeard outside the Iceland supermarket in Georgetown, Jersey.
This report prompted a thorough police response, leading to Beaugeard's arrest five days later.
During a search of Beaugeard’s residence, law enforcement officers seized three mobile phones and two photographs depicting naked children.
Further examination of the devices uncovered a disturbing cache of images—specifically, 206 indecent photographs of children stored across two of the phones.
These findings confirmed the severity of Beaugeard’s offenses.
Beaugeard subsequently pleaded guilty to two counts of making indecent images of children, acknowledging the possession of these illicit materials.
The court was informed that the 13-year-old boy was familiar with Beaugeard’s address and that the defendant had claimed to police he had invited the boy to his home with the intention of watching a movie together.
In sentencing, the Royal Court imposed a community service order requiring Beaugeard to complete 180 hours of unpaid work.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for five years and mandated to participate in a sex offenders rehabilitation programme.
The court also ordered a three-year period of probation, during which Beaugeard’s activities will be closely monitored to prevent any further offenses.
This case highlights the ongoing concerns regarding child safety and the importance of vigilant law enforcement efforts in Jersey to combat such heinous crimes.
