JERSEY MAN FOUND GUILTY OF RAPE 21 YEARS AFTER OFFENCE
Simon Paul De La Haye, aged 53, insisted he was not guilty but was unanimously found guilty by a jury in Jersey’s Royal Court located in St Helier on Wednesday, 16 October.His sentencing is scheduled for 17 December.
The crime in question happened in November 2002, but an investigation was only initiated more than twenty years later after the victim reported the incident to the police in May 2023.
De La Haye was taken into custody on 20 December 2023, after which he was interviewed and subsequently charged on 26 September 2024.
Detective Sergeant Alasdair Castle, from Jersey Police’s Criminal Investigations Department, stated: "We recognise the immense courage of the victim coming forward to report a serious sexual offence after so many years.
"We will continue to ensure victims are supported through the criminal justice process and urge other victims of sexual crimes to seek help or to report what happened.
"We will continue to listen, to investigate thoroughly and bring offenders to justice".

Simon Paul De La Haye, 53, was found unanimously guilty of one count of rape and was remanded in custody.
He will be sentenced on 17 December.
The offence took place in November 2002, and the victim reported it to police in May 2023.
De La Haye maintained a not guilty plea but was charged in September of the previous year.
Det Sgt Alasdair Castle stated the police would continue to listen and bring offenders to justice, urging other victims of sexual crimes to seek help or report what happened.
