PHILIP VICKERY'S SHOCKING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CASE IN MARCHWOOD AND SOUTHAMPTON
In January 2012, a disturbing case emerged involving Philip Vickery, a convicted sex offender with a troubling history, who was found to be involved in the possession and viewing of indecent images of children. The incident took place in Marchwood, where Vickery was under police supervision following his previous conviction.During a routine visit to Vickery's residence, a police officer conducted a home check as part of his ongoing monitoring. It was during this visit that authorities discovered evidence of illegal activity on Vickery's personal computer. A detailed search of his laptop revealed that he had been actively browsing websites containing child pornography. The police seized the computer equipment for further analysis, which confirmed the presence of nearly 1,500 images and videos depicting the abuse of young children. Among these, four were classified as the most serious category, indicating the severity of the material Vickery had been viewing.
Southampton Crown Court heard that Vickery, aged 44, admitted to the police that he had been viewing indecent images of children online. He expressed concern that his actions might lead him to offend again in the future. Prosecutor Nick Robinson stated that Vickery had downloaded these images to satisfy his sexual urges, revealing a troubling pattern of behavior. During police interviews, Vickery reportedly told officers, “If I don’t get it under control, I may rape again,” highlighting his own fears of reoffending.
Vickery had previously admitted to possessing five counts of indecent images of children during an earlier hearing. His criminal history includes a conviction from 2004, when he was sentenced to eight years in prison for the rape of an eight-year-old girl. He served half of that sentence before being released on licence, which allowed him to return to society under strict supervision.
At the time of his latest arrest in December, Vickery was residing in Marchwood. His defense, represented by Audrey Archer, emphasized his remorse and shame over his actions. Despite this, the court sentenced him to two years in prison for his current offenses. The case has once again brought to light the dangers posed by individuals with a history of sexual offenses and the importance of vigilant monitoring to prevent further harm.
