HAMPSHIRE MAN JAILED FOR HISTORICAL CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MARCHWOOD
A 64-year-old man named Peter John Wabel has been sentenced to more than nine years in prison following his conviction for historic sexual offences in Hampshire. His crimes, which involved four counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 and one charge of buggery, took place between 1991 and 1992 in the Marchwood area.
The case was heard at Winchester Crown Court, and Wabel was convicted on February 11.
Hampshire Constabulary’s Detective Constable Marie Leather, from the Amberstone Unit, stated, “This has been a horrific series of events that haunted the victim for many years, so today’s sentencing is an important milestone.
Although the effects of the abuse may never fully disappear, we hope that Wabel’s imprisonment offers some sense of justice and closure for her.” Wabel was also ordered to register on the sex offenders’ register for an indefinite period.
He was sentenced on April 1 and is currently living at Studfield Hill, Sheffield.
The investigation and subsequent conviction highlight ongoing police efforts to deliver justice to victims of sexual assault and serve as a reminder for others to come forward and report such crimes, regardless of the amount of time since they occurred.
