Hampson, residing on Clarendon Close in Birkenhead, was brought before Liverpool Crown Court where a jury convicted him of 14 separate sexual offences.
The court proceedings revealed the extent of his misconduct, which included inappropriate touching, kissing, and performing sexual acts on the girl, who was not yet a teenager at the time of the abuse.
During the trial, the victim’s personal statement was read aloud, providing a heartbreaking insight into the lasting impact of Hampson’s actions.
She expressed her fears about future relationships, stating, “I’m only a young girl and will want relationships in the future but I will always be worried about trusting others.” She also described her ongoing struggles with sleep, revealing that she has to face the wall and cuddle a teddy bear to feel safe at night.
Prosecutor Ben Jones outlined the disturbing details of the case, emphasizing that Hampson had engaged in kissing, sexual touching, and performing sex acts on the young girl.
The court heard that Hampson’s actions were relentless and caused significant emotional damage.
Judge Robert Warnock, presiding over the case, expressed his disappointment in Hampson’s lack of remorse or insight into the gravity of his crimes.
In his sentencing remarks, the judge sentenced Hampson to eight years in prison, with an additional year on licence, reflecting the severity of his offences.
Furthermore, the judge imposed an indefinite restraining order, banning Hampson from making any contact with the victim to protect her from further harm.
As Hampson was led away to begin his sentence, he was supported by a group of relatives and friends from Birkenhead, who showed their support by blowing kisses and waving as he was taken into custody.
