SHREWSBURY MAN SENTENCED FOR ASSAULTING GIRLFRIEND
Man jailed for hitting girlfriendA man named Philip Grindley, age 23, from The Parks area in Shrewsbury, has been sentenced to eight months in prison after he assaulted his girlfriend by punching and head-butting her in bed.
According to the court, the incident occurred in May when he broke Gemma Sutherland's nose after she turned her back on him when he made unwanted advances.
The court heard that the victim, who shared a daughter with Grindley, had come back home in the early hours after going out drinking with a friend.
The judge noted that she had lost interest in their physical relationship.
Grindley admitted to the assault, and during proceedings, he also apologized for his actions.
The case was heard at Shrewsbury Crown Court and the sentence reflects the severity of the attack, which was considered a domestic violence incident.
