2003: BREIGHTMET MAN JAILED FOR HEAD-BUTTING BABY DURING DOMESTIC ATTACK
2003: A man who head-butted his four-month-old daughter during a violent assault on his wife has been sentenced to 21 months in prison.Philip Butler, residing on Slaidburn Avenue in Breightmet, attacked his wife Karen while she was holding their baby.
During the assault, he attempted to head-butt her but inadvertently struck the infant, who required medical attention for a bruised head.
The court proceedings revealed that Butler demonstrated little remorse for his attack on his wife.
In a separate incident after their separation, Butler threatened his wife with a kitchen knife held to her throat.
With a criminal history dating back to his teens, Butler admitted to a pattern of violence and expressed a desire for help in managing his temper.
However, Judge Derwin Hope at Bolton Crown Court stated that only incarceration was appropriate, describing his actions as disgraceful.
The judge noted that Butler attacked his wife while she was holding the child, kicked her in the head, and tried to head-butt her, hitting the baby instead.
Butler, aged 26, pleaded guilty to three counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of affray.
The prosecution’s Lisa Boocock mentioned that Butler was heavily intoxicated during the initial assault, and police observed Mrs.
Butler with blood on her face as she walked along the street afterward.
