2006: BODYBUILDER RAPIST JAILED FOR ATTACKS
2006: A bodybuilder with a history of violent behavior, best known for his signature act of brutality which involved choking women by lifting them into the air, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.Michael Evans, 36, residing on Glencoe Drive in Breightmet, was convicted of raping and assaulting two women following steroid use aimed at increasing his muscularity.
The court sentenced him yesterday to serve life for charges including actual bodily harm and three counts of rape.
He could potentially be considered for parole after four years.
During proceedings at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, it was outlined how Evans’ relationships with his victims shared striking similarities.
Prosecutor Iain Simkin explained that Evans initially behaved as a caring and reasonable partner but eventually became a controlling, aggressive figure who used both physical and sexual violence to dominate the women.
Both victims described situations where he accused them of infidelity, with these accusations often leading to violent episodes including rape.
One woman testified that Evans assaulted her upon returning drunk from a stag party in 2001, repeatedly throttling her and accusing her of wanting to see her ex-partner.
She described her pleas for him to stop and his persistent attacks that lasted for an extended period.
During a vacation abroad, Evans attacked a different woman, suspecting her of being attracted to a bartender, which led her to end their relationship in 2002.
Evans’ second victim was met in a Bolton nightclub, and their relationship also involved abuse.
On holiday, he accused her of neglecting their children, then threw her around by her hair, throttled her, and punched her.
In 2005, he assaulted her again after an argument, using a chokehold and pushing her against a wall.
One of his most violent acts was after an Ann Summers event, where he accused her of cheating, head-butted her, and lifted her by the neck until her head touched the ceiling before dropping her onto the bed.
Evans was charged with raping the first woman once and the second woman twice.
He denied all allegations related to rape, assault, and burglary but was convicted following the trial.
The judge, Jonathan Geake, commented that although Evans has mood swings, he has a charismatic side when sober.
The judge also highlighted Evans’ insecurities and vanity, as well as his tendencies toward bullying and control, ultimately describing him as a profoundly violent individual.
