FLINT MAN JAILED FOR CHILD SEX OFFENCES AND POSSESSION OF INDECENT IMAGES
Philip Bell, aged 52 and resident of Bryn Road, Flint, has been convicted of multiple child sex offences, including targeting girls aged 16 and under on Snapchat.Bell engaged in contact with several underage girls, including a vulnerable 16-year-old with whom he had sexual relations in a hotel.
Additionally, Bell possessed a vast collection of nearly 7,000 indecent images and videos of children, some depicting children in significant pain.
He also had an additional 100,000 images uncategorized.
During proceedings, the prosecutor, Simon Rogers, revealed that Bell had shared explicit images and videos, some involving distress or pain.
Bell admitted to the charges, which included possessing and distributing child pornography, attempting to groom minors, and engaging in sexual activity with a child.
The court was informed that police discovered Bell had also contacted a 14-year-old girl from England, receiving and sharing intimate images.
On arrest, police found evidence of Bell’s online activity, including a large web of indecent material downloaded from the dark web over two years.
Bell blamed his offending on bereavement, citing the death of his wife as a trigger, which the judge deemed 'grossly offensive.' The sentencing judge, His Honour Simon Mills, described Bell as a 'dangerous' offender, emphasizing the risk he posed to the public and children.
Bell received a total of 12 years in prison for his actions, with specific sentences handed down for distributing Category A images, engaging in sexual activity with a minor, and other related offences.
Upon release, Bell will serve four years on licence, with additional concurrent sentences for grooming and possession of extreme pornography.
His behaviour and attitude appeared to have hardened while in custody.
Police expressed satisfaction with the sentence, aiming to deter others from similar crimes online.
