EX-SOLDIER CARL DAVIES JAILED FOR STALKING AND THREATENING BBC STAR AND DAUGHTER
Carl Davies, a former soldier from Flint in Wales, was sentenced to a total of two years and eight months in prison after he pleaded guilty to stalking BBC presenter Louise Minchin and her daughter Mia.He had engaged in a series of disturbing and graphic threats, wholly designed to instill fear and distress.
The court was told that Davies sent cruel messages via social media, including a message stating "Move or you're f*****" to Louise and a horrifying threat claiming "Your daughter will definitely be raped." Prior to this, Davies had not been known to the Minchin family, but became a significant threat when he started using Instagram in summer 2020 to leave serious threats and disclose private information about the family.
Specifically, he tagged them in abusive comments, shared their address, detailed the cars on their driveway, and expressed eagerness to have a family Sunday roast, revealing intimate knowledge of their location.
His actions left the family "significantly stressed," forcing them to alter their daily routines after police were informed.
Investigations tracked an IP address to his home, leading to his arrest in August.
During proceedings, it was also disclosed that Davies had a long history of convictions for stalking, including a suspended sentence for stalking Nicola Roberts of Girls Aloud.
He was diagnosed with PTSD, attributed to his military service, though he had not sought treatment.
The judge emphasized that the graphic and disturbing nature of his messages evidenced deep ongoing distress in the victims, with Louise stating she might never feel safe again and her daughter Mia expressing a desire to leave their home.
The court also issued indefinite restraining orders preventing him from contacting them physically or via social media.
