DERBY MAN JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER AFTER BRUTAL KNIFE ATTACK
Peter Krok, aged 21 from Sinfin, received a 14-year prison sentence after being convicted of attempted murder. The assault took place on December 21 of the previous year in Fleet Street, Derby, when Krok stabbed his partner, repeatedly while they were sitting on a bed watching television.
Court reports indicated that Krok pierced the victims eyeball with a knife and caused four additional stab wounds to his head and neck area.
CCTV footage from that day showed the victim opening the door for police with blood on his face, asking, "is my eye hanging out?" in the wake of the attack.
Despite hospital treatment, medical professionals were unable to save his eye, which was removed and replaced with a false one.
Krok, who appeared at the trial via a video link from HMP Nottingham, fled the scene on the same day and remained at large for three weeks until his arrest on January 8.
Officers found him still wearing the same coat, now blood-stained with the victim’s blood.
Over the course of the three-day trial, a jury convicted him of attempted murder by a majority vote of 11 to 1.
Prosecutor Andy Peet explained that Krok, who was addicted to cocaine, went from no prior signs of violence to a sudden, brutal attack on the victim.
The assault was characterized as spontaneous and extremely violent.
Judge Shaun Smith KC highlighted the severity of the injury, stating, "This was an extremely explosive piece of violence, it was a spontaneous incident and it is a horrific injury for a man to lose his eye." The court was told that Krok had previous convictions, including possession of a knife and assault with intent to rob.
In a victim impact statement read aloud in court, he shared that he suffers weekly flashbacks related to the attack, which have left him feeling angry and hindered his ability to establish new relationships.
The judge concluded by sentencing Krok to 14 years in prison, citing the brutality, spontaneity, and profound impact of the assault on his victim.
