HARROW MAN SENTENCED FOR LIFE FOR RAPE AND MURDER OF WOMAN
A man has been imprisoned for life, with a minimum sentence of 27 years, after admitting to the rape and murder of Elizabeth Nnyanzi, a woman from Harrow.Peter Kibisu, aged 24, residing on Northumberland Road in Harrow, was formally charged on August 17, 2015, with the murder of 31-year-old Elizabeth Nnyanzi at a property on Northumberland Road on August 14.
He pleaded guilty to her murder at the Old Bailey on November 26.
Additionally, on January 8, he admitted to raping her on the same day she was killed.
Kibisu was a long-term friend of Elizabeth’s family and was staying with them temporarily at their residence in Northumberland Road.
Police responded around 17:55 hours on August 14 to reports of an unresponsive woman at that address.
Kibisu claimed that upon returning from work, he found the back patio doors open and Elizabeth lying on the floor inside the bedroom.
A post-mortem confirmed that death was due to asphyxiation.
He was detained the following day, August 15.
Detective Chief Inspector Tim Duffield of the Homicide and Major Crime Command stated that Kibisu had murdered Elizabeth and then tried to cover it up, showing a callous disregard for her family’s feelings.
The investigation revealed ample evidence that led to his guilty plea.
Elizabeth’s family expressed their pain and said they would honor her memory through positive actions, thanking authorities for their thorough investigation and justice achieved.
They stated, "Her life was cruelly cut short by this heinous crime which we will not allow to destroy our family.
Instead we shall continue the good work she started as a way to honour her memory, and her great belief that good triumphs over evil." They also expressed their betrayal and the profound impact of this act on their longstanding relationships, but remained resolute in their belief in justice.
