ST HELENS OFFENDER JAILED FOR DECADES OF SEXUAL ASSAULTS
Police uncovered that Peter Jemmett had been involved in sexual assaults spanning nearly two decades when he was apprehended during an operation involving a paedophile hunter group.Authorities seized his mobile phone and discovered he had recorded numerous videos depicting the abuse of a sleeping man.
His victim was unaware of the abuse until informed by police, with Jemmett now claiming to be "at a loss" as to his motivations.
On the afternoon of April 7, 2025, Liverpool Crown Court heard that Jemmett, formerly residing on Marshalls Cross Road in St Helens, had been detained in March 2023 after communication with a decoy account on a dating app and WhatsApp.
His phone contained 42 videos of sexual assault, including acts like kissing, exposing, touching, and oral sex, with some footage dating back to February 2004.
The most recent videos were taken just a day prior to his arrest.
One of the male victims expressed shock and confirmed he had not consented to any acts depicted.
Jemmett previously served a three-year prison sentence and was instructed to register as a sex offender for life in April 2024 following his communication with the paedophile hunter group.
He also shared explicit images purportedly of one of the victims, claiming he was the person in the videos rather than the victim.
During sentencing, Judge Denis Watson KC described the acts as particularly egregious, emphasizing that Jemmett recorded the assaults while the victims were either asleep or incapacitated.
Jemmett, now 63, admitted four counts of sexual assault and received a sentence of 40 additional months in prison, alongside an indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
His defense highlighted his health issues, including a stroke and mobility challenges, and noted he had no prior sexual offending history.
The judge condemned Jemmett's behavior as a serious violation, especially considering the prolonged period of unconsciousness and the fact that he shared images with a paedophile hunter group.
