PETERHEAD MAN RECEIVES COMMUNITY ORDER FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AFTER 'FRESH START' IN ELGIN
A man from Peterhead, Peter James, aged 33, has admitted to abusive behavior towards his partner following a period of hope for a fresh start in Elgin that turned sour. The couple had moved there with intentions of reigniting their turbulent relationship, which initially was described as romantic and caring by James' partner, likening the first seven months to 'something from a movie.' However, from March 2023, James' partner reported that he "changed overnight like a flip of a switch," becoming markedly more selfish and narcissistic, leading to the end of their relationship in April 2023.
After relocating to Cameron Park Brae in Elgin, James' behavior worsened on July 30, 2023, when he woke in a bad mood, huffing and puffing about having lots to do, which caused his partner to barricade herself in the bedroom and eventually exit through a window.
James attempted to force entry into the flat, which prompted his partner to call emergency services.
James was found to have behaved threateningly and abusively, shouting abusive remarks at his partner.
Due to weather conditions, James was unable to attend court in person, but he admitted to behaving threateningly and abusively.
The court sentenced him to a supervision order for one year and mandated 80 hours of unpaid work, with the court's sheriff stating that James was "putting himself back on the straight and narrow".
